College Protests against Apartheid in Israel

Even as Israeli citizens mindfully continue their protest against Benjamin (I’ll Do Anything as Long as it Takes to Cling to Power) Netanyahu’s government, and other countries around the world struggle to remind Netanyahu that there are too many Palestinian men, women and children who are too cowed and/or too terrified to protest against Hamas dying, we find simpleminded university students across North America mindlessly following an apocryphal dickdumb that claims Hamas are simply fighting a war that is holy about their desire to end apartheid in Israel by masterminding the unapologetic mass rape and murder of Israelis and then retreating to hide behind their women (themselves the victims of the world’s biggest real apartheid past or present) and children en route to peacefully wiping the State of Israel off of the face of the earth (or something to that effect).  Yes, Palestinian terrorists have managed to kidnap the hearts and minds of thousands of poorly educated North American university students triggering the world’s largest case of Stockholm syndrome (outside of Russia).

Runner Up: Scurvy

As the rich get richer on the coattails of profiteers in Big Grocery, Big Ag and Big Food, scurvy is making a comeback as even those of us who are not living in food deserts find ourselves unable to afford real food.

Elon Musk, the man behind The Man

The good, the bad, and the ugly sides of Elon Musk were behind a lot of the goings on last year.

Wall Street Introduces Water Futures

For the first time, Wall Street traders are now able to trade in the future value of water, the way they have with other agricultural and mineral commodities. Thirsty for profits, it appears that at least they have realized where real value (and risks) lie because we can’t drink oil, gold, or bitcoins – a point that is being made abundantly clear as Water riots continue spilling onto the streets of Iran as authorities are doing whatever they can to drown out the protestors thirst for whatever is fueling their “Death to Khomeini!” chants.

An Evergrander Existential Threat for China

Although the Cold War between China and the US continued to escalate with relations hovering on the brink of absolute zero,  the real story was actually a massive meltdown that is leading to internal upheaval for Communist China as capitalism continues to eat it from the inside out on an Evergrande(r) scale. Stay tuned.

Alberta’s Premier calls for bids to build new oil refinery

Finally! Someone that actually (or accidentally) sees the stupidity of worrying about fighting everyone everywhere for the “opportunity” to make it easier to give away our raw materials for chump change by comparison to what they will sell it back to us for once it has been refined.  Here’s hoping she (and the feds) follow through and this becomes the first of many refineries and other raw material processing plants that generate employment for Canadians as opposed to all those other countries.

Runner-up: High Demand for Legal Marijuana in Canada leads to shortages everywhere”

Could this dream come true for the Canadian munchie market come down to a future global hunger nightmare when Canadian farmers turn on to marijuana as a happier, more profitable alternative to a lot of more nutritious cash crops that Canada has traditionally pushed abroad?

“New Cold War Heats Up with Game of Drones”

Both the Americans and the Chinese are testing swarming mini-drones that share one distributed brain.  Experts fear the Chinese may be ahead of the curve given their dominance in today’s commercial drone markets, but drone sell American ingenuity short when it comes to small mindedness.

“Serious Global Water Shortages by 2030”

According to one shocking US government report that was released last year, the global need for water will exceed the global supply of water by 40 percent by the year 2030.  Even Chinese authorities, not known for their candor on any subject, are warning that they are becoming, “perilously close to the internationally recognized benchmark for water shortages.”

Oil not be Moved

Neither an alien invasion of the Ukraine, separatism on the North Sea, medieval terrorists in the Middle East, nor Ebola in Nigeria and Texas seem able to fuel price hikes at the gas pumps.

  • Ukraine sits on 1/4 of the world’s entire proven reserves.
  • Almost 90% of British North Sea oil output is found in Scottish waters.
  • Over 1/2 of the world’s oil reserves are in the Middle East
  • Nigeria is the world’s 10th most petroleum-rich nation.
  • Texas accounts for close to 1/3 of all U.S. reserves.

Has big oil lost it’s edge or were they just fracking with us?

Communisn’t  (what it used to be)

There are at least 83 billionaires in China’s parliament. Not bad for the world’s largest communist country where approximately 800 million (of 1.35 billion) Chinese live on less than $15 a day and where the average per capita income is approximately $9,100.  Meanwhile in America,  the world’s largest capitalist economy with an average per capita income of roughly $49,800, there are no billionaires in Congress. Runner Up:   Disabled America: where work is for suckers

Almost 10% of working-age Americans are on disability.  One reporter located a county in Alabama (pop. 15,388) where nearly 1 in 4 working-age adults are on disability.

Holy 1984 Mr. Orwell, where’s my telephone?

Oops! Stop the celebration!  Humanity is in fact doomed. A U.K. poll learns that 66% (up from 53% last year) of it’s citizens are afraid of losing or being without their cell phones.  It’s called nomophobia (but don’t worry I’m sure there will soon be an app for that).
